Electromechanical Torque Equation

Electrical Machine 1 Unit-1

Electromechanical Torque Equation

Que.  Write the electromechanical torque equation of a rotating machine.

Ans.  The rotating machine work on the principal of Lorentz’s force which states that when a wire carrying current is placed in a region having magnetic field, than the wire experience a force.

Now, the force acting on each armature conduction is

F = BIL

Where, B = flux density
             I = current in ampere through each conductor
            L = lenth of the conduction in meter

Therefore, the torque due to each conduction

T = F × r
Total torque for armature conductors

= Z×  r

       = Z × BIL × r
Where, r = distance in meter of the conductor from the axis of rotation
              Z = number of armature conductors

Then flux density (B)
Where, ∅  = flux per pole

Substituting the value in equation (i)
